Imogen Joy: "My Marianne"

Released September 25, 2020

My Marianne

In a van with six strangers but they’re my best friends

The drivers in a wolf mask, there’s glitter on the wheel

We kiss and it’s like I just robbed a bank at any moment cops will pull me out and take back all the happiness I feel

We’re screaming in Amsterdam, the cops come for real

I tell them you’re just rehearsing for your part as Norman Bates

Then we’re taking off our clothes

All the horror disappears

I don’t say a word, I let my touch negotiate

Do our little moments blur?

I could never be sure what was you what was me or the universe, running my hands through the sunflowers

As the last of them die

We say goodbye

It feels weird on my lips like I'm telling a lie

It’s almost sweet

I got stuck and rot

In your softest spot

It’s always been enough for me

You’re my Marianne

My coldest friend

I ran through your blizzard happily

All those years ago

I loved you so

But you should know it’s yesterday to me

It’s yesterday to me

In Christie Pits rear window’s on the big screen

You say I love you, I start to panic

As everything inside of me is calculating carefully, to love so unconditionally could only be tragic

I’m in your empty parking spot I lie there for hours

On a poem that I wrote for you, oh how dramatic

I’m standing on the hood of your car I say drive faster

And I hope you run me over, oh how romantic

Do our little moments blur?

I could never be sure what was you what was me or the universe, running my hands through the sunflowers

As the last of them die

We say goodbye

It feels weird on my lips like I'm telling a lie

It’s almost sweet

I got stuck and rot

In your softest spot

It’s always been enough for me

You’re my Marianne

My coldest friend

I ran through your blizzard happily

All those years ago

I loved you so

But you should know it’s yesterday to me

It’s yesterday to me
